Running the Ipswich Half Marathon to raise funds for us
Three case workers from Citizens Advice Ipswich are taking part in the Larking Gowen Ipswich Half Marathon on Sunday 22 September at 9.30am, cheered on by volunteers and colleagues who will be raising funds for the Charity.
All three are experienced and regular runners who have totted up 24 half marathons between them, both in this country and abroad. They are hoping that the crowds that come along to support this event will give generously to this charity that has been at the heart of Ipswich for 50 years.
Justin Ostler, Senior Adviser in Social Prescribing, who hopes to complete the 13.1 miles in less than two and a half hours, says: “I’m happy to be running with a Citizens Advice running vest on, because over my four years of working for Citizens Advice Ipswich I’ve seen the effect that we can have on people and how we can improve their lives.”
Russell Gant, also a social prescribing adviser says: “I’ll be happy if I complete in two and a half if I’m honest, but I’m not interested in the time – I’m interested in the event as a fund raiser. Citizens Advice is such a good place to work and it’s great to do this as a fundraiser.”
Roger Garrod, who is a Money Adviser, has been running for four years. He’s also hoping for a completion time of around two and half hours. He says: “It’s great to be doing this fundraiser now. It’s a great achievement that we’ve been helping people for half a century and long may it continue!
“We are hoping to hear lots of cheers as we go past the crowds as well as the sound of change falling into the collection buckets our supporters will be shaking along the Waterfront. Of course we also hope for the ‘food of the gods for runners’, also known as Jelly Babies to keep our energy up as we run along.”
