Citizens Advice Ipswich was delighted that three case workers ran the Larking Gowen Ipswich Half Marathon on Sunday 22 September, cheered on by volunteers and colleagues and the Ipswich crowds across the town.
All three are experienced and regular runners who have totted up 24 half marathons between them, both in this country and abroad. The crowds who turned up to support all the runners cheered our runners who were representing the charity that has been at the heart of Ipswich for 50 years.
Justin Ostler, Senior Adviser in Social Prescribing, who completed the 13.1 miles in in a new personal best time, said: “It was a fantastic race with excellent support from the people of Ipswich, I had a lot of shout outs from the crowd for Citizens Advice Ispwich. I was so glad to be out there running in CAB colours supporting the charity because over my four years of working for Citizens Advice Ipswich I’ve seen the effect that we can have on people and how we can improve their lives.”
Russell Gant, also a social prescribing adviser said: “I was happy to complete the race but I was not interested in the time – I’m interested in the event as an awareness raiser. Citizens Advice is such a good place to work and it’s great to do this.”
Roger Garrod who is a Money Adviser, has been running for four years. He said: “It’s great to have taken part today. It’s a great achievement to run a half marathon and also that we’ve been helping people for half a century and long may it continue!”
Nicky Willshere, Chief Officer at Citizens Advice Ipswich said: “We are so proud of all our advisers who go the extra mile every day for our clients and it was great that the crowds today showed their appreciation for the effort being made by Justin, Roger and Russell today as well as for the work we do day in, day out for the people of the Ipswich area!”
