Research and Campaigns
No one else sees so many people with so many different kinds of problems, and that gives us a unique insight into the challenges people are facing today. We use this knowledge to improve our advice to clients as well as pointing out where service providers could make things better for people trying to access their service.
We use this evidence to:
- help us research issues further
- influence decision makers to change policies and practices
- campaign to get decision makers to change policies and practices
- share anonymised data with our partners and stake-holders to evidence the need for access to services and to build relationships to better serve clients in the locality
- increase awareness of the work of Citizens Advice and how people can inform themselves of their rights
- plan services to reach those who need it most (such as Outreaches, and participation in projects) working with our partners across the area
- widen our impact by reaching out further to those who have not been able to access our services in the past.
Current Priorities
As well as supporting national campaigns, we raise awareness through the media and run local campaigns to highlight issues affecting people across the region.

Digital exclusion
Research suggests that there are a number of important barriers to digital inclusion, and more than one may affect individuals at any one time.
- access – not everyone has the ability to connect to the internet and go online
- skills – not everyone has the ability to use the internet and online services
- confidence – some people fear online crime, lack trust or don’t know where to start online
- motivation – not everyone sees why using the internet could be relevant and helpful
- design – not all digital services and products are accessible and easy to use
- awareness – not everyone is aware of digital services and products available to them
