Recruiting: Financial Management Portfolio holder, Trustee

Ipswich Citizens Advice is an independent, community-based charity staffed largely by volunteers who provide free, confidential, independent and impartial advice to everybody regardless of race, gender, disability or sexuality. Its aims are:

  • to ensure that individuals do not suffer through lack of knowledge of their rights and responsibilities, or of the services available to them, or through an inability to express their needs effectively.
  • to exercise a responsible influence on the development of social policies and services both locally and nationally.

We are seeking someone who can offer the skills relevant to financial oversight of a small bureau (with an annual budget of approx. £300,000). We require a treasurer who can demonstrate commitment and integrity in advising the board on the financial health of the organisation. Responsibilities include presentation of the management accounts at board meetings, and advising on the corrective action that may be required when difficulties arise.

So if: –

  • You want to help the community where you study, live or work?
  • You believe in social justice and want to help change things for the better?
  • You want to make sure you and your neighbours get the advice you need now and in the future?
  • You have skills that you can put to other uses?
  • You want to get involved in running a small but influential and important charity?

Please consider joining us.

We can offer you opportunities that you might not be able to get elsewhere: –

  • Developing new skills.
  • Personal development.
  • Learning how an organisation works.
  • Giving something back to their community.

Ipswich Citizens Advice is a voluntary organisation. All volunteers are fully trained and supported by a paid staff structure.

We are an equal opportunities employer and strive to achieve diversity in all that we do.

Recruitment to Trustee Board

Make a difference
– Chair of Trustees sought by Ipswich Citizens Advice

Citizens Advice Ipswich is looking for new members to join our Trustee Board. In particular we are looking for an enthusiastic person with senior management experience to act as Chair of the Trustee Board as well as other Trustees to take on specific portfolio roles.

Citizens Advice Ipswich provides assistance to over 6,500 clients every year involving around 16,000 separate issues relating to debt, benefits and tax credits, employment, relationships and housing issues. This service is delivered by 14 paid and around 60 volunteer staff who do an amazing job in helping the most vulnerable people in Ipswich and its districts.

We are entering an extremely busy and exciting stage as we seek to attract new funding through an innovative and recently agreed funding strategy. Ipswich Citizens Advice does a fantastic job, is well managed, our finances are robust and we have recently undergone a restructure to modernise and improve our approach to delivering our work.

The Trustee Board shapes strategy and gives direction to the charity. It supports and monitors the management team, acts as employer for paid staff, ensures the charity complies with relevant law and manages the finances. For this to happen successfully each Trustee has a portfolio responsibility and we are looking to bolster this with an intake of new Board Members.

The Board mostly meets in the evening which allows us to fit in volunteering around a full or part time job.

Interim Chair, Rev Charles Jenkin says:

“Sitting on a Trustee Board can be excellent experience if you want to work for a charity. If you are experienced in strategic management or have other specialist skills then we would welcome an application from you to become part of the team that steers Ipswich Citizens Advice to deliver the crucial service that we provide here.”

If you are interested in being considered for the position of Chair of the Trustee Board or for any other Trustee position please call 01473 219770 or email bureau@ipswichcab.org.uk for further information and an application form.
