Trainee Debt Adviser & Caseworker

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £19,000 (reviewed after successful completion of probation period)

Hours:       37 hours a week (full time)

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and well organised person to join our expanding Money Advice Team as a Trainee Debt Adviser & Caseworker.

Last year alone, our advisers helped write-off more than £1m of debt for our local clients! We’re passionate about the work we do – empowering our clients to achieve positive outcomes and we’re privileged to be able to see how the work we do directly improves the lives of the people we work with.

You’ll need good questioning skills to explore a client’s personal and financial situation in depth, using the information to create an accurate budget from which you’ll identify the solutions available to them, and suggest ways to increase their income or reduce their expenditure.

As well as fully advising clients on all of their options for dealing with debt, you’ll undertake casework, acting on behalf of our clients to help prevent enforcement action; negotiate with creditors; entering the ‘Breathing Space’ scheme; and accessing solutions like Debt Relief Orders (DROs) and Bankruptcy. All the advice we give is recorded on our Case Management System, so you’ll need to be confident and fast at using a computer to type up detailed notes and compose letters.

No financial or advice experience is required as full training will be given, and you’ll be supported by our friendly team to provide advice and casework to our diverse client base, working through face-to-face appointments as well as by telephone and digital channels.

We’re looking for somebody who is self-motivated, proactive, and highly organised. We work closely together on cases, so the ability to work as part of a team is essential. Once trained you’ll be managing your own caseload – so previous experience of managing a portfolio of work would be beneficial, as would an understanding of financial matters and/or experience of giving advice.
